Shortly before approaching celebration of 71st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, and within implementation of “Zhenis” social and charitable project (initiated by “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC Group of Companies) employees of “Samruk-Kazyna Invest” LLP visited veterans of the Great Patriotic War: Ivan Afanasyevich ZAICHENKO and Vasiliy Fyodorovich PARKHOMENKO.
The Partnership employees congratulated the veterans with the Holiday, wished them health, and expressed their deep gratitude for their heroic feats of arms made for the Great Victory. Despite of their advanced age and failing health, during the meeting the veterans shared with their memories about the war and told what happened to them after it was over. The Partnership employees from their own resources provided welfare assistance within their capacities in satisfying the needs of the veterans.
Ivan Afanasyevich ZAICHENKO was born in 1923 in Ramadan village in Alekseyevskiy district, Akmola Region.
In February 1942 he was called up to the Red Army. He passed 6-month training in Tashkent Machine Gunner and Mortar Gunner School. Upon completion of the school he was promoted to the rank of junior lieutenant. He fought near Stalingrad within separate machine-gun battalion of 169th riffle division. After receiving fragment wound inn Stalingrad battle, he underwent 4-month medical treatment, whereupon he invalided out of the army. He returned to his native village where he worked as a radio operator, a supervisor of broadcasting center.
Between 1946 and 1956 worked in internal affairs agencies (Assistant Commandant, Chief of Headquarters). He graduated from School of KGB USSR. Between 1956 and 1974 served in Emergency Situations System. Last position held: engineer at Tselinogradskiy regional fire safety department.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War and Medals “For the Defense of Stalingrad”, and “For War Merits. He is a major in the internal services
Vasiliy Fyodorovich PARKHOMENKO was born on August 1, 1921 in Nezhino city in Chernigovskaya oblast, Ukrainia SSR.
He graduated from 10-year secondary school in 1939. The same year in November entered Smolensk Artillery School. On May 10, 1941 he was sent to Brest-Litovskiy 62nd fortified sector, where he served when on June 22 the Great Patriotic Was started. He fought in near Moscow; he participated in the liberation of Smolensk, Minsk, Brest, and Poznan. He was a commander of DOT-4 (permanent fire position).
After the war he returned to his native city of Nezhino (Ukraine), where he studied at Faculty of Physical Culture of Pedagogical Institute. Thereafter he dedicated his life to teaching. He worked in a village school as a teacher of military and physical education. In the same place he worked as a physical education instructor in Party Committee of Nizhino city, and as a director of the stadium. Last position held: Head of Cultural Ceneter. In 1988 Vasiliy PARKHOMENKO moved to Kazakhstan together with his wife to their only daughter.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War and other orders and medals. Military rank: lieutenant.
