1st Kazakh-Belgian Business Council: development trade and economic cooperation in key sectors

In order to strengthen interstate relations in the field of business, the first meeting of the Kazakh-Belgian Business Council (hereinafter referred to as the business council) was held in Astana. The event brought together leading experts and representatives of the business communities of the two countries to discuss the prospects and development of bilateral cooperation.
Issues of trade and economic interaction, attracting investments and implementing joint projects with the participation of representatives of large Belgian companies in Kazakhstan were actively discussed.

General Director of Samruk-Kazyna Invest Saken Abilmazhinov told the participants of the business council about the main investment conditions of the company and noted that the main goal of Samruk-Kazyna Invest is the diversification of the Fund’s assets, as well as the development of non-resource sectors of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan such as mechanical engineering, food and light industry.

The Kazakhstan delegation included Chairman of the Board of Baiterek National Holding JSC Kanat Sharlapaev, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Belgium Margulan Baimukhanov, co-chairs of the Business Council Ayan Erenov and Denis Van Den Wege and other representatives of the business community. The Belgian side was represented by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Kazakhstan Henri Van Tieghem, AWEX Director for Greater Europe Yves Richard, and President of the Benelux Chamber of Commerce Denis Van Den Weghe.

At the end of the event, participants held substantive meetings with potential business partners on the implementation of specific investment projects and establishing direct contacts.
